So powerful and moving as an image. These figures represent just the
Allied soldiers killed on the first day of the Somme. All 19,240 of
them. The sad sight of them laid row by row gives a visual perspective
of death on a scale we find hard to comprehend now.
May they rest easy one and all. We will not forget.
