A Gathering of Kith and Kin

We had a rare chance to gather our kith and kin together for a picnic, including our American connections who had flown over for a brief visit and the British weather held good too.

 

The family tradition of climbing trees still seems to be strong in the younger generation.

Also for me, a little bit of magic in that a dragonfly was hovering and dancing around our heads, my mum always said she'd visit back as a dragonfly so when one is around it always makes me smile. I should know she'd never miss the chance of a family gathering.

Afternoon Tea at the Cake Hole.

I enjoyed a very lovely trip to the Cake Hole Tearooms in Edwinstowe, courtsey of my dad who treated me to lunch there. There isn't a great deal of space inside to sit and it was fairly busy but there is much more room in the court yard which is a lovely place to while the hours away on pleasant days in the dabbled shade of the trees. .

The original plan was to call in for afternoon tea but as we arrived a bit earlier when lunch was still available neither of us could resist the home made smoked mackerel pate and salad. Neither could I visit a tea room and not indulge in a bit of cake. There were many variations of lovely delicious desserts and cakes on offer but I'm afraid my old time favourite of Victoria sponge with jam and butter-cream still won the day.

A little trip out on a showery day

Weather wise the day wasn't brilliant but visiting Heaths Country Store, one of my favourite fabric shops is always worth while. I also wanted to go and see their window display, Heath had done another fabulous display for autumn, of course I couldn't go and not buy just a bit of fabric. Still saving up for the new furbaby so didn't go mad, but got some lovely autumn leaves on a black back ground to make some side cloths and a couple of fat quarters and small prints to do some decorations with and also bits for the dollshouses.
